The Essential Things The Film "In Time" Reminds Us About Time

Image
In Time is one of the life-changing films to me. It's a 2011 science fiction movie. Will Salas, the protagonist, lives in a world where people stop aging at age 25. Time is currency, so people earn and spend it. As long as they have time, they can live. The limited super-rich can live almost forever with health, whereas the rest have no choice but live from day to day literally. In Time is thought-provoking from two perspectives: social structure resources of time and money We'll look into the film from the resource perspective in this post. Photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash Time is a resource, as is money Time is a resource. You're probably not pressed for time if you don't have that sense. Neither did I. I'd forgotten time is a resource until I saw In Time . In one scene, Will's mother can't afford to get a bus back home. The fare went up to 2 hours, and she has only 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, it's 2 hour...

The Things That Made Me Quit Mobile Game

Image
I once struggled to get a mobile game away from myself. I tried several things to stop playing the mobile game and eventually made it somehow. I had tried and managed to spend less time on my smartphone before, but quitting a mobile game was a different kind of challenge. (If you're interested, see this post about how I reduced my smartphone time .) In this post, I will tell you what kind of attempts I made and what really made me quit the mobile game. Photo by   SCREEN POST   on   Unsplash How I got indulged in the mobile game I used to be addicted to a mobile game. I rarely played mobile games, but one day I felt like playing a kart-racing mobile game somehow. I tried that game, and it was fascinating. Since then, I used to play it for an hour or more almost every day. But a month or more after I started the game, I gradually felt less excited than before and became frustrated. I began to long to get that mobile game away from me, but ...

What I Tried To Spend Less Time On Smartphone

Image
You use your smartphone for long hours every day. Sometimes, you use them effectively to solve daily issues efficiently. But in other cases, you may use them as a mere way of distraction. Come to think of me, I struggled to spend fewer hours on my smartphone. I wanted to spend less time being distracted by my smartphone. I did several things to save my precious time from my smartphone. Now I spend less time on my smartphone than I used to. In this post, I'll share which worked and which didn't. Photo by Gilles Lambert on Unsplash What worked #1: Remove apps from my Home screen This is one of the easiest ways that works. You won't get distracted if you don't see any stimulating things. Whenever you unlock the smartphone, colorful icons come into view, which is attractive enough to make me forget why you unlock the smart...

Five Impressive Discoveries From "Insta-Brain"

Image
How many hours a day do we spend using our smartphones? According to Insta-Brain  (original Swedish title: Skärmhjärnan ), four hours for adults and four to five hours for teenagers. Very long, isn't it? Immediately after starting to read this book, I was surprised at how long we spend on our smartphones. And from there, I finished the book as if drawn into it. Insta-Brain gave me many insights into how our brains influence our behaviors.  In this post, I wish to tell you five of the most impressive discoveries from the book. Photo by William Hook on Unsplash Our brains have changed little since ancient times. This is the consistent message of the book. Given the history of our species since its emergence 200,000 years ago, smartphones, the Internet, and social networking have only recently become commonplace, or rat...

Why Everyone Says Positive Thinking Is Important

Image
Are you optimistic or not? I guess most of you answer with "sometimes yes and sometimes no." There is no pure positive thinker and no pure negative thinker. Everyone is between pure positive and pure negative. Even when someone is optimistic about their future, they may feel somewhat anxious about it simultaneously. There is also a case that someone had thought positively of something one day, but the very next day, they were pessimistic about another thing. However, everyone says you need to be positive. I participated in several seminars in the past year. Every instructor told me how essential it is to think positively for your growth. I read dozens of books, many of which say something like this; be positive, and your life will start to shine. Should we always be positive? Why is it widely said that positive thinking is essential? Let's think about it. ...

Why I Started Blogging

Image
I pursue my life with purpose. That's why I learn. I'm happy if I can help you live your life with meaning. That's why I share what I've learned. In this post, I'll tell you how I decided to start blogging. Although this is my story, I believe you can take something from it, especially if: You like learning but aren't sure it's helping you. You learn hard but can't say why you do that. You've got tired of learning. So let's get started. Photo by Kaitlyn Baker on Unsplash What I did before starting a blog I'm a software engineer. I decided to be a software engineer because I liked programming and learning. Aside from a passion for programming, being a software engineer requires the competence of constant learning. So I thought it seemed one of the perfect options to me. I was looking forward to tracking chall...

What We Should Do In A Rapidly Changing World? Here Are Books Giving Us Hints

Image
The rise of ChatGPT is likely – or has already started – to change our lives. At one point, I found a YouTube video saying ChatGPT could solve some programming quizzes. Indeed, I could see ChatGPT solved programming quizzes with astonishing ease. It could generate the answer in several programming languages. Being a bit inspired, I also tried a similar thing. I asked ChatGPT a programming-related question. It gave me a solution in a few seconds. The answer was correct. It was impressive. I couldn't help but think the day may come when many (if not all) software engineers (including I) will lose their jobs, as said in this article . ChatGPT will evolve further, and there will be many more life-changing technologies, not just ChatGPT. So what should we do in such an era? In this post, I'd like to share the thought-provoking books helping us find answers to the question.
